Sie erhalten i. d.

With the Application for Admission to the Doctoral Examination (online application: see "My Applications"), the following documents must first be uploaded online and then submitted in the original to the Examination Office after the application has been checked:

  1. Before submitting your application for admission, please check whether you have an existing Supervisory Agreement. You can find information on extending your Supervisory Agreement here.
  2. Some faculties require specific combinations of reviewers and examiners. Please check this under the current resolutions of the faculties.
  3. proof of enrollment in the doctoral program at LMU Munich for at least one year (e.g. by certificate of enrolment ("Immatrikulationsbescheinigung" or "Studienverlaufsbescheinigung"), ask: Office of the University Registrar/"Studentenkanzlei")
  4. current curriculum vitae, signed and dated
  5. official certificate of good conduct (not older than three months, a private certificate of good conduct is sufficient) or proof of a current employment contract in the German public service (except for auxiliary contracts; original and copy)
  6. list of all publications (if available), in which the publications with content related to the dissertation are specifically marked (separate list, not integrated in the curriculum vitae), signed and dated.
  7. affirmation in lieu of oath (automatically generated in the online application), signed and dated. Does not have to be integrated into the thesis.
  8. Declarations (automatically generated in the online application), signed and dated
  9. identity card/passport (in case of postal submission: simple copy).
  10. three identically bound copies of the dissertation in DIN A4
    • paginated, table of contents and bibliography
    • if the thesis is not written in German, a German abstract must be included in the thesis (in all three copies). Recommendation: approx. two pages per 100 pages (min. 5 pages, max. 10 pages)
    • adhesive binding, no spiral binding, no hard cover
    • If necessary, split into several volumes. Mark several volumes accordingly, e.g. "Volume 1/2").
    • Recommendation: double-sided printing, unless your reviewers explicitly request single-sided printing
    • There are no further requirements for printed dissertations on the part of the examination office. If necessary, please ask your reviewers for more information
    • You can already upload your dissertation in the online application (PDF).
    • lease note that only two copies are provided for review. The third copy remains in the examination office for archiving. The third examiner (disputation) does not receive a copy from us; this must be provided separately on request.
    • Please clarify in good time whether your third examiner also requires a copy of the dissertation for the disputation and, if so, provide this copy yourself. For organizational reasons, the Examinations Office cannot take over the forwarding
    • An example for a title page is available for download (.docx) at the bottom of the page.

You will be informed by us as soon as your application has been processed. You can then come to the examination office with the requested original documents or submit them by post*. Please bring the original and a copy (to be kept in the examination office) of all originals that were not uploaded with the application.

An appointment is not necessary, but can be made.

We recommend submitting the online application approx. 14 days before the respective submission periods, so that there is sufficient time for further questions if necessary and delays in the procedure can be avoided.

As a rule, you will then receive your notification of admission.

Possible submission deadlines for personal/postal submission of originals.
