Vorläufige Führung des akademischen Grades "Dr. phil." / Provisional holding of the academic degree "Dr. phil."

Unter bestimmten Voraussetzungen kann nach bestandener Promotionsprüfung der Kandidatin oder dem Kandidaten das vorläufige Recht eingeräumt werden den akademischen Grad eines Doktors der Philosophie (Dr. phil.) zu führen, auch ohne bereits erfolgter Publikation der Dissertation.

Die vorläufige Führung des akademischen Grades "Dr. phil." hat nach § 17 Abs. 3 Satz 3 der Promotionsordnung konkrete Voraussetzungen:

1. Ein formloser Antrag auf vorläufige Führung des akademischen Grades "Dr. phil.".
2. Es liegt die Druckgenehmigung der Erstbetreuerin oder des Erstbetreuers vor. 
3. Es liegt ein Vertrag oder Bestätigung vor, dass die Publikation gesichert ist (z. B. Verlagsvertrag). 
4. Die Publikation erfolgt innerhalb von eineinhalb Jahren nach bestandener Promotionsprüfung (entsprechende Angaben im Vertrag bzw. Bestätigung oder eigene schriftliche Versicherung im Antrag).

Der Antrag, die Druckgenehmigung und eine Vertragskopie bzw. Bestätigung sind zusammen als eine PDF im Promotionsportal unter „Meine Anträge“ > „Publikation“ > „Anträge“ hochzuladen.

In besonderen, nicht von der Doktorandin oder vom Doktoranden selbst zu vertretenenden Fällen, kann die Frist in Nr. 4 auf Antrag verlängert werden.

Besondere Hinweise:

Wird Nr. 4 nicht erfüllt und es liegen keine besonderen Fälle vor, die eine Firstverlängerung begründen würden, erlischt das vorläufige Recht den akademischen Grad "Dr. phil." zu führen. 

 

Provisional holding of the academic degree "Dr. phil."

Under certain conditions the candidate may be temporarily permitted the right to hold the academic degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Dr. phil.) after passing the doctoral examination, even if the dissertation has not already been published.

There are specifice requirements to provisional hold the academic degree "Dr. phil." according to § 17 (3), 3 of the doctoral degree regulations:

1. An informal application for provisional holding of the academic degree "Dr. phil.".
2. The first supervisor gave the permission to print. 
3. There is a contract or confirmation that the publication is guaranteed (e.g. publishing contract).
4. Publication takes place within one and a half year after passing the doctoral examination (corresponding details in the contract or confirmation or your own written declaration in the application).

The application, the printing permission and a copy of the contract or confirmation must be submitted in the doctoral portal under "My applications" > "Publication" > “Applications”.

In special circumstances for which the doctoral candidate herself or himself is not responsible, the deadline in No. 4 may be extended by an informal application.

Special instructions:

If no. 4 is not fulfilled and there are no special circumstances which would justify an extension of the deadline, the provisional right to hold the academic degree "Dr. phil." expires.
