Dissertationen werden in der Regel als eine wissenschaftliche Arbeit verfasst.

Ausnahmsweise kann in begründeten Fällen eine Dissertationschrift aus mehreren Fachpublikationen oder zur Veröffentlichung angenommenen Arbeiten (kumulative Dissertation) oder einem anderen Medium (Mediendissertation) bestehen. 

Bitte prüfen Sie zunächst ob und unter welchen grundsätzlichen Voraussetzungen kumulative Dissertationen an Ihrer Fakultät möglich sind. Hierzu die aktuellen Beschlüsse der Fakultäten.

Voraussetzungen:

Die Vorassetzungen von kumulativen Dissertationen ergeben sich aus § 9 Abs. 2 der Promotionsordnung:

1. Forschungsdesign:

1. qualitativ-empirisch/theoretisch: mindestens vier Fachartikel
2. quantitativ-empirisch: mindestens zwei Fachartikel
3. oder eine Mischung aus a. und b.

Antragsstellung:

Wenn Sie Ihre Dissertation als kumulative Dissertation einreichen wollen, stellen Sie bitte vor Anmeldung zur Promotionsprüfung

1. einen formlosen schriftlichen Antrag Ihrerseits, in diesem Antrag geben Sie Auskunft über die Punkte 1.-3. zu jedem Artikel, benennen Sie so weit wie möglich die üblichen Literaturangaben (Autor/innen, Jahr, Titel, Fachzeitschrift etc.) und erläutern kurz den Forschungszusammenhang
2. formlose schriftliche Stellungnahme der Betreuerin bzw. des Betreuers: Befürwortung, Gleichwertigkeit zu einer monographischen Dissertation und Einhaltung der Richtlinien der Fakultät
3. ggf. Genehmigung des Fakultätsrats (siehe Beschlüsse der Fakultäten)

Der Antrag und Befürwortung sowie ggf. die Genehmigung des Fakultätsrats sind im Prüfungsamt zusammen einzureichen.

Wir empfehlen die Antragsstellung spätestens einen Monat vor der geplanten Anmeldung zur Promotionsprüfung und Einreichung der Dissertation.

Wenn notwendig: Anträge an den Fakultätsrat sind in ähnlicher Form im Dekanat einzureichen.

Cumulative Dissertation / Media Dissertation

Dissertations are usually written as one scientific thesis.

Exceptionally, in reasoned cases, a dissertation can consist of several publications or papers accepted for publication (cumulative dissertation) or another medium (media dissertation).

Please first check whether and under what basic conditions cumulative dissertations are possible at your faculty. Please refer to the current resolutions of the faculties.

Prerequisites:

The prerequisites for cumulative dissertations can be found in § 9 (2) of the doctoral degree regulations:

1. Research design:

1. qualitative-empirical/theoretic dissertation: at least four papers
2. quantitative-empirical dissertation: at least two papers
3. or a mixture of a. and b.

2. Authorship:

First authorship: 3 out of 4 articles (a.) or 1 out of 2 articles (b.)

3. Publication status

Application submission:

If you wish to write your dissertation as a cumulative dissertation, submit

1. an informal written application on your part, in which you provide information on points 1.-3. for each article, as far as possible, name the usual references (author, year, title, journal etc.) and briefly explain the research context.
2. Informal written statement of the supervisor: endorsement, equivalence to a monographic dissertation and fulfilment of the rules of the faculty.
3. If necessary, permission from the faculty council (see faculty resolutions).

The application and endorsement as well as the permission of the faculty council, if necessary, are to be submitted to the Examinations Office together.

We recommend submitting the application at least one month before the planned registration for the doctoral examination and submission of the dissertation.

If necessary: Applications to the Faculty Council are to be submitted in a similar form to the Dean's Office.
