Externe Gutachter/innen und Prüfer/innen / External Reviewers and Examiners

Externe Gutachterinnen und Gutachter (Dissertation) bzw. Prüferinnen und Prüfer (Disputation) sind nach der Promotionsordnung 2016 grundsätzlich nicht vorgesehen.

Ausnahmen erlaubt die Promotionsordnung unter ganz bestimmten Bedingungen, die aussagekräftige Begründungen bei der Antragstellung erforderlich machen. Jeder Antrag muss deshalb individuell vom Promotionsausschuss geprüft und entschieden werden.

Bevor Sie einen Antrag stellen,

  1. besprechen Sie Ihren Antrag mit der Erstbetreuerin oder dem Erstbetreuer Ihrer Dissertation und
  2. klären Sie, ob ein prüfungsberechtigtes Mitglied Ihrer Fakultät oder einer anderen Fakultät in Frage kommt.

Da die LMU über zahlreiche wissenschaftliche Fachrichtungen verfügt, wird der Fall nur selten eintreten, dass keine Gutachterin oder Gutachter bzw. Prüferin oder Prüfer an der LMU zur Verfügung steht.

Wenn Sie einen Antrag stellen möchten,

  1. begründen Sie bitte ausführlich, warum eine Gutachterin oder Gutachter bzw. Prüferin oder ein Prüfer einer anderen Universität für das Zweitgutachten bzw. für die Disputation unerlässlich ist, 
  2. legen Sie eine ausführliche Befürwortung mit Begründung der Erstbetreuerin oder des Erstbetreuers bei und
  3. legen Sie eine Publikationsliste sowie Lebenslauf der gewünschten Gutachterin oder Gutachter bzw. Prüferin oder Prüfer bei aus dem die derzeitige Universitätszugehörigkeit und dortiger Status sowie Stellung hervorgeht.
Sowohl der Antrag, als auch die Befürwortung der Betreuungsperson müssen jeweils unterschrieben und zusammen im Prüfungsamt eingereicht werden! 
Wir empfehlen die Antragsstellung spätestens einen Monat vor der geplanten Anmeldung zur Promotionsprüfung und Einreichung der Dissertation.

Besondere Hinweise:

  1. Im Rahmen von Cotutelle-Promotionen werden selbstverständlich auswärtige Prüferinnen und Prüfer bestellt. Bereits in der Cotutelle-Vereinbarung werden diese festgelegt.
  2. Erstbetreuerinnen und Erstbetreuer, die während des Promotionsverhältnisses aus der LMU ausgeschieden sind, um an eine andere Universität zu wechseln, werden ebenfalls bestellt. Die Promotionsordnung sieht vor, dass Betreuerinnen und Betreuer in einem Zeitraum von bis zu fünf Jahren die Betreuung fortführen und das Prüfungsrecht wahrnehmen können (siehe § 7 Abs. 2 der Promotionsordnung 2016). Eine entsprechende Fortführung des Prüfungsrechts muss von der oder dem Erstbetreuenden formlos, schriftlich und im Original unterschrieben beantragt werden und von der Doktorandin oder dem Doktoranden ebenfalls formlos, schriftlich und im Original unterschrieben befürwortet werden. Antrag und Befürwortung bitte zusammen im Prüfungsamt einreichen. 
  3. Teilweise sind nach den Beschlüssen der Fakultäten bestimmte Gutachterkombinationen vorgeschrieben (z. B. Beteiligung einer hauptamtlichen Professur der LMU aus der Fach der Promotion). Sollte durch eine externe Gutachterin/Prüferin bzw. externen Gutachter/Prüfer diese Kombination nicht mehr eingehalten werden, muss vorab der Fakultätsrat auf Antrag dies genehmigen (Antragstellung im Dekanat).

External Reviewers and Examiners


External reviewers (dissertation) or examiners (disputation) are not provided for under the doctoral degree regulations 2016.

The doctoral degree regulations permit exceptions under very specific conditions that require meaningful reasons when submitting applications. Each application must therefore be examined and decided individually by the doctoral committee.

Before you submit an application,

  1. discuss your application with the first supervisor of your dissertation and
  2. clarify whether a member of your faculty or of another faculty is entitled to write a evaluation or to take the oral examination.

Since the LMU has numerous scientific disciplines, it will rarely happen that no examinar is available at the LMU.

If you would like to submit an application,

  1. please explain in detail why an reviewer/examiner from another university is indispensable for the second evaluation or for the disputation, and
  2. enclose a detailed confirmation with given reasons by the first supervisor, and
  3. enclose a list of publications and the curriculum vitae of the reviewer/examiner you are seeking.
The application as well as the confirmation of the first supervisor have to be signed and submitted together! 

We recommend submitting the application at least one month before the planned registration for the doctoral examination and submission of the dissertation.

Special notes:

  1. External reviewers/examiners within a Cotutelle-Agreement are already aproved.
  2. First supervisors who have left the LMU to move to another university are also appointed. The doctoral regulations stipulate that supervisors can continue their supervision and exercise their examination rights for a period of up to five years (see § 7 (2) of the doctoral degree regulations 2016 (only German)). The first supervisor must apply for a continuation of the examination right informally, in writing and signed in the original. The doctoral student must also support the application of the supervisor informally, in writing and signed in the original. Please submit the application and the confirmation of support together to the Examination Office.
  3. In some cases, the resolutions of the faculties require certain combinations of reviewers (e.g. participation of a full-time LMU professor from the subject of the doctorate). If an external reviewer no longer complies with this combination, the Faculty Council must approve this in advance upon application (application to the Dean's Office).
